You are what you look like!

Most people think putting a lot of effort into their physical appearance is a superficial thing to do. But is that really the case?

If you’re trying to improve your appearance by focusing mainly on things like body shaping, keeping up with the latest fashion trends, and makeup, then I see it as superficial, too.

Yet we know for a fact that people make their decisions about someone’s attractiveness based on first impressions—which usually don’t last longer than 10 seconds.

With that in mind, we might want to ask ourselves: How do we want to come across to others—and what kind of impression do we want to make?

There are two factors that significantly influence our perception of someone’s personality:
  • their inner qualities
  • their charisma

The key is to bring these inner attributes to the surface, so they’re visible to others.

Attributes like fitness, nutrition, and various lifestyle vices (like smoking and drinking too much alcohol) are immediately apparent. So is the way we dress.

If we don’t put much thought into what we wear, if we neglect our nails and teeth, or let our hair go for months without a visit to the salon, then we’re making a clear statement.

That statement might go something like this: “I don’t care about my appearance—you’ve got to love me for who I am on the inside!” (Provided you know who you are on the inside.)

As important as they are, our inner qualities aren’t always attractive, at least not right away. The same is true in the animal world—which we also happen to be part of. So it’s definitely worth the effort to make a good impression in an “animalistic” sense.

And how can we do this? It starts with bringing our personalities into harmony with our outward appearance.

For example, if you don’t like to wear high heels, then you won’t look good in them. But a good cosmetic treatment, just like a session with a good stylist, can work wonders.

Here are my 10 tips for maintaining an impressive appearance that can open doors:
  1. Try to lead a healthy lifestyle—it shows! (Check out my post BioAge: How you can lower your Biological Age
  2. Avoid things like alcohol and smoking.
  3. Take good care of your nails. Your hands and feet are a reflection of self-love!
  4. Get regular dental cleanings—teeth are a secondary sex characteristic!
  5. Visit cosmetic studios and hair salons regularly.
  6. Moisturize your face and neck daily—after showering, apply moisturizer to your entire body.
  7. Put on a little makeup, even if you’re staying home all day. This way, you’ll feel good when you look in the mirror—and build your self-esteem.
  8. Get advice from a professional stylist. Follow their suggestions when choosing your clothes. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to look good!
  9. Wear clothes that fit the occasion.
  10. Wear comfortable clothes that reflect who you are!

Voilà!

THE FIVE-MINUTE MAKE-UP ROUTINE!

An elaborate make-up routine—with foundation, primer and finish—is actually meant for wrinkle-free skin.

When we apply all of these products to mature skin, they end up emphasizing each wrinkle. That is, the more wrinkles you have, the more visible they are.

This is why I recommend staying away from liquid make-up, which makes the face look older. For mature skin, lightly tinted day creams are a much better alternative.

The same is true for powder eyeshadow.

Our eyes tend to make the strongest impression on people, and our eyebrows play the leading role.

Blush is also an absolute must here! It gives the face a healthy-looking freshness. Finally, the lips should always be well-lined—to communicate sensuality and good grooming.

My 5-minute make-up routine—after daily cleansing and skin care—looks like this:
  1. Shape the eyebrows with a brush and accentuate with a brown pencil. (You can usually find both in a single product. I’ve made good experiences with https://www.maxfactor.com/de-de/augen/lidschatten/contouring-stick-eyeshadow
  2. Apply light cream eyeshadow on the upper eyelids. Than brown eyeliner on the outer halves of the edges of the eyelids and smudge a little. Finally brown mascara to the lashes.
  3. Using the fingertips, apply cream blush over the cheekbones.
  4. Frame the lips generously with a subtle lip liner and dab some lip gloss onto the middle of the lower lip. Press the lips together once.

If you like, apply a little loose powder to the nose, forehead, cheeks and chin with a large brush. Bonus tip: lip liner lasts longer if you put a little powder on your lips first!

Voilà!

Sexy or comfortable?

September 23, 2019

A lot of women ask themselves this question when they look in their closets or browse the women’s section of a department store.

On the one hand, you don’t want to sacrifice your femininity. But on the other hand, you do want to avoid clothes that constrict, pinch, or show more than you want when you move around. Ideally, you want to find clothes that are both sexy and easy to wear.

First and foremost, your clothes should be comfortable

So it’s best to choose fabrics made with natural fibers like cotton, viscose, silk, and wool. Not only do these materials feel good, but they also allow the skin to breathe.

I’m a big fan of clothes. But when I go shopping and see those monstrosities made of mostly synthetic fabric—many of which are lined—I have to wonder if the manufacturers have ever worn dresses like this themselves. For me, lining is one of the deadly sins of today’s textile industry. Adding an extra amount of air between the inner and outer layers of a dress is totally unsexy!

In the meantime, you want to look for clothes that show off your best parts. If you have nice legs, feel free to wear dresses on the shorter side. If you have great cleavage, there’s nothing wrong with a generous neckline. Again, above all, your clothes should feel comfortable! Why? If an outfit looks great but feels awkward, it’ll most likely end up as a one-day outfit.

Tight black pants made of viscose with a touch of spandex suit every woman and create a slimming effect. Combine them with black ballet flats or high-heels, and you can easily go from daytime comfort to nighttime glamor. They’re also easy to mix and match with a range of tops, from bold blouses to business-like blazers.

Have fun in your clothes!

Voilà!

Can the right skin-care routine make you look younger?

You could spend hours every day with all the skin-care products on the market right now.

Most of these products make big promises: a youthful appearance, solutions for every skin problem, and the general feeling that you’re taking good care of yourself and doing the right thing for your skin.

In addition to simple and inexpensive products, you can also find so-called high-tech skin products in drug stores and pharmacies, which have been subject to years of laboratory testing by experts. Offering scientific proof, many of these products claim they’re capable of transforming the skin in a matter of weeks. And their prices reflect these claims.

In any case, it’s definitely important to take time every evening to free the skin from the stresses of the day—to cleanse, refresh and apply your favorite skin care cream. In the morning, it’s best to repeat this ritual in order to feel good throughout the day.

But is it possible to rejuvenate the skin with the “right” skin-care regimen?

In the post “How You Can Lower Your Biological Age”, I describe all the things you can do to have a positive impact on the body and the skin. Taken as a whole, these steps can shave up to 10 years off your biological age.

Unfortunately, the effects of skin care alone aren’t that far-reaching.

When we buy an expensive cream in a breathtakingly beautiful jar, we often experience an emotional high. We expect it to fix all of our skin problems. We apply it religiously. It’s an overwhelmingly good feeling!

But the fact is facial massage and facial exercises can do more for your skin’s appearance than any skin-care product, no matter how high-end or sophisticated it is.

So, as far as products go, the best thing to do is choose a skin-care line that suits your skin type and only costs enough money to make the investment seem reasonable. The differences between skin products, and the effects they have, are truly minimal.

With that in mind, here’s my skin-care routine:
Mornings:
  • Cleansing with a facial toner
  • Serum
  • Day cream, depending on the skin type—a rich, moisturizing cream is best
  • Make-up, if desired
Evenings:
  • Cleansing gel
  • Toner
  • Acid peeling every other day
  • Night cream with high oil content
Once a week: a face mask, as an extra source of relaxation.

Voilà.

Love your fat cushions!

Looking at the paintings from the Rubens era, I ask myself why the ideals of female beauty have changed so much over the years.

The gaunt models on today’s catwalks would have been out of the question as models for artists like Rembrandt. Still, current beauty icons have a huge impact on the world of women today and drive many girls to despair.

On social networks, on billboards, and in the media, fit bodies represent health and attractiveness. They’re showcased as role models, or prerequisites, for happiness.

In that spirit, various diets and sports programs come into play as declarations of war against fat deposits and belly fat—which supposedly cause disease and represent a mortal sin.

Don’t get me wrong: Exercise and a healthy diet can certainly help keep us fit and beautiful.

But the question is: are we allowed to have a little “fat padding” or not? And, if so, how much? My position is clear: Women need a healthy amount of fat padding!

Why? Our fat padding contains a considerable amount of female hormones, especially estrogens, which help keep the body elastic and supple. So if we’re missing fat deposits, we’re also missing a stock of hormones we might need!

On the question of attractiveness: According to a survey, many men find women with curves more attractive than women with flawless, fat-free, ultra-fit bodies.

An ultra-fit body may be considered a sign of athletic prowess. However, when it comes to sexuality, it’s less about athletic performance and more about warmth and relaxation. Read: Live out your sexuality

So, dear ladies, the next time you stand on the scale or look in the mirror and notice a little something pouring over the edge of your panties, stay calm and be kind to yourself. It’s just your curvy femininity, which the old masters knew how to appreciate in their day.

Love your body! And explain to your partner why they should love it, too!

Voilà.
